This role is for an exciting, Berlin based scale-up with 120+ employees who recently received 8 figures in Series A funding. They are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to manage, guide, coordinate, and play a crucial role in leading a team of software engineers, solving challenging technical and business problems quickly and efficiently.


Planning & Execution

  • Serve as a technical expert in the evaluation and testing of the capabilities, characteristics, and requirements of existing and emerging information systems technologies
  • Make recommendations as to the feasibility of implementation of modified or new technologies and/or frameworks, responsible for the development of technical solutions for the team in cooperation with Technical Leads
  • Work with engineers and/or product managers to maintain and ensure the effective implementation of team processes, prioritize backlog and create short-term and long-term goals, support the team in planning, and managing upcoming work items
  • Identify inefficiencies in the team’s development process and resolve them, or escalate them
  • Insist on observability and data-driven decision making

Coaching & People management

  • Manage a cross-disciplinary team of 5-7 engineers
  • Conduct regular 1:1s with direct reports to understand objectives and challenges
  • Provide continuous feedback, address underperformance, and recognize the individual strengths and contributions of team members
  • Be responsible for the performance reviews, and OKRs, act as a problem solver in the team and maximise team delivery quality, teamwork, and team productivity
  • Help for development and career growth and assign it to skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals


  • Work closely with the recruiting team to hire high potential candidates
  • Understand the staffing needs of the team and ensure it is set up for success
  • Participate and help improve the hiring process
  • Conduct technical interviews, or assign someone from the team as an interviewer instead


  • Collaborate closely with the product & engineering leadership
  • Implement the agreed roadmap according to specifications and expectations
  • Identify gaps in competency and opportunities to improve
  • Report on the progress, indicating deviations from the existing plans
  • Communication with stakeholders to ensure that priorities are correctly aligned


  • Solid people management experience – 5 years of proven experience managing technical teams as a Dev/Tech Lead
  • Experience developing with Ruby on Rails and ReactJS is a plus
  • Exposure to SaaS business with continuous software delivery cycles, best in a B2B context
  • Familiar with high availability setup on AWS with modern service management and escalation processes (SRE, DevOps, Incident & Problem Management)
  • Proficient with agile software development approaches, e.g. Kanban or SCRUM
  • Experience with analysis of requirements — an ability to organize and maintain clear technical documentation
  • Experience with spatial data processing, big data processing
  • Experience with interviewing, on-boarding and coaching
  • Organizational, analytical, and time management skills
  • Strong risk management expertise and ability to escalate risks accordingly
  • Must be an independent, self-driven leader who is able to motivate and inspire people, instill accountability and achieve results
  • Fluency in English, German is a benefit

A plus will be if you have:

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent is preferred
  • Knowledge of system design
