My client based in Central Berlin are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer for the below position:

The tech teams are continually striving for the highest quality, quick-release solutions. We work in small, focussed, Agile, cross-functional teams using bits of Scrum, Kanban, and a smidge of Extreme Programming. Our teams have Product Management, Devs, and UX all working together every day.

What Type of DevOps Engineer are we looking for?

The Systems Engineering Team is responsible for building and maintaining our core operations infrastructure. As a key member of the global production operations team, the Systems Engineer will be responsible for building, maintaining, and improving foundational infrastructure, Such as: DNS, DHCP/PXE, Operating System images, patching, provisioning systems, load balancing, configuration management schemes, LDAP/S, backup, virtualization and more.

The successful candidate will be versatile, with an extensive Unix Systems Engineering background with deep knowledge/understanding of UNIX/Linux internals (kernel/libraries, filesystems, package management, etc.), experience working with many open source technologies such as: nginx, splunk, elastic, nagios, xsql, postgres, git, memcache, redis and ldap are some examples). An understanding of what it means to own a problem, focus on tasks and ability to filter out distractions and a process mindset are essential skills.

· BS or MS in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent experience.
· Experience with Ruby, Python, GO, or Java.
· Understanding of MapReduce commands (Hadoop etc.) is good to have.
· The experience to breakdown distributed systems, identify points of failure, and fix problems

· Great communication skills.
· Experience working in a distributed support team with minimal supervision.
· Extensive knowledge of open source web/mobile technologies and souce code management systems (such as: Git).
· Experience in an enterprise-scale production environment with uptime (zero downtime) requirements and process.
· Understanding of the role, function, and operation of common infrastructure components like load balancers, firewalls, routers, switches.
· A deeper understanding and experience with load balancers would be particularly useful (NGNIX or f5).
· Experience with tools and automation used to bootstrap and provision servers in a datacenter environment.

Your Tasks:
· Work with engineering teams on design & implementation of new OS rollouts.
· Work with engineering teams on design & implementation of large scale systems.
· Use your ESP to determine what is going to break and when.
· Automating post deploy smoke tests to test and validate production changes
· Act as an advocate for adoption of best practices in system design and support standards

The Must to have skills are:

  • Maintaining our core operations infrastructure.
  • Responsible for building, maintaining, and improving foundational infrastructure: DNS, DHCP/PXE, Operating System images, patching, provisioning systems, load balancing, configuration management schemes, LDAP/S, backup, virtualization and more.
  • extensive Unix Systems Engineering background with deep knowledge/understanding of UNIX/Linux internals (kernel/libraries,filesystems, package management, etc.),
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Ruby, Python, GO, or Java well beyond knowing that they are not jewels, snakes, or Coffee.
  • Great communication skills
  • Experience working in a distributed support team with minimal supervision
  • Extensive knowledge of open source web/mobile technologies
  • Extensive knowledge of source code management systems (Git)
  • systems automation with a common open source framework.
  • Experience with tools and automation used to bootstrap and provision servers in a datacenter
    environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of Monitoring (pagerduty, OpsGenie, pingdom, Prometheus, icinga,check_mk, new Relic and ELK)
